Our client
Yayasan Hasanah (YH) is a foundation under Khazanah Nasional, the Malaysian wealth fund, and provides yearly 50 million USD in grants and social projects to tackle community, environmental and social issues in Malaysia.
The challenge
YH’s grant funding has grown rapidly over the last years, as has the number of grantees, projects and activities. The YH grant management systems and its M&E team had not grown in pace with this growth. Therefore, YH needed to upgrade its organizational systems and internal capacities in terms of review, approval, monitoring & evaluation, and the capacities of grantees to implement and monitor their projects.
Yayasan Hasanah contracted MDF to refresh and strengthen their organizational and programmatic strategies. We co-created thematic Theories of Change (ToCs) and designed a matching M&E and Learning (MEL)system, incorporated into the 2021 – 2025 strategic plan. Next, the internal organizational Scorecard Framework needed to be updated in consultation with internal and external stakeholders. We conducted a benchmarking exercise with regional and international foundations of similar nature and size. Lastly, YHs organizational set-up was reviewed and strengthened to match the new strategies, systems and processes.
