To celebrate MDF's 40th anniversary, we’re reflecting on the journeys of our offices worldwide. Here, we turn to MDF Netherlands, where it all started, laying the foundations of our mission and commitment to global development.

MDF Netherlands is where MDF’s journey began. Founded in 1984 by Henk van Loo, who saw the need to build management skills in international cooperation projects, this office created the foundation for MDF’s mission of "Empowering people, creating impact!"

With a team of 33 professionals from diverse backgrounds, the office values autonomy, creativity, inclusiveness, and trust, shaping both its work environment and interactions.

Projects and global achievements

For 40 years, MDF Netherlands has equipped thousands of participants worldwide with valuable management skills, opening doors to roles with greater responsibilities. As MDF Netherlands director Dick van Blitterswijk explains, many key players in international cooperation, across government, NGOs, and unions, have enhanced their planning, evaluation practices, strategies, and team dynamics through MDF's support.

The Netherlands office has managed large development projects and complex evaluations, providing valuable insights and accountability for implementing agencies and funders.

Engagement, connection, and professionalism

The Netherlands office prioritises engagement, connection, and professionalism, values that guide the team’s approach to each initiative. Staff members foster connections through official events and casual gatherings, such as after-work drinks.

One key tradition is the annual “Internal Day” at the start of each year. This day is dedicated to reviewing year plans and strengthening team bonds through engaging activities, setting a positive and collaborative tone for the months ahead.
