In honour of MDF’s 40th anniversary, we're highlighting the journeys of our offices around the globe. Here, we turn to MDF Benin, where our efforts are expanding impact across French-speaking West Africa through local partnerships and dedicated development work.
The MDF Benin office, established in 2019, is responsible for managing projects in Benin and the region, as well as responding to the needs and requests of our customers. This office focuses on enhancing local capacities and supporting sustainable development initiatives.
"We opened our office in Benin to better manage the projects we have in Benin and to better serve our customers' needs and requests." Damien Gbedji N'Ledji, Benin office director.
Projects in education and community development
With a team of seven professionals, the office has led projects in education and community development, including the creation of the national land register in Benin through the Land Administration Modernization Project (PMAF) and the Scaling of the National Land Register (PPMEC), in collaboration with VNG International and Kadaster International. The purpose of this project was to develop a model for a national land administration system in Benin. Less than 1% of the country's land is registered with a legal land title, which is costly for the majority of the population.
Additionally, it has strengthened the business ecosystem by enhancing the commercial and entrepreneurial capacities of 100 young and female entrepreneurs/SMEs, creating business opportunities for young Beninese and displaced individuals, developing the "Guide to Doing Business in Benin," and providing subsidies to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
A culture of acceptance, teamwork, and commitment to well-done work
The Benin office has a community-focused approach, particularly towards enhancing the entrepreneurial ecosystem. As a development partner, the office values a culture of acceptance, where differing opinions and religions are respected, and it emphasizes harmonious coexistence.
The team adopts mutual aid, teamwork, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. The office promotes professional excellence through close collaboration with local communities in training and development initiatives.
The office actively supports the local community through training and awareness activities, providing subsidies for small and medium-sized businesses, offering free services to the population, and delivering advice and coaching.
A memorable moment at Benin's office
A particularly memorable moment for the Benin office was organising a cocktail dinner with partners to celebrate MDF's 40th anniversary. This dinner was attended by all MDF directors in Benin and highlighted our strong relationships and commitment to our partners.
Making a difference in French-speaking West Africa
Looking ahead, our vision is to become a key player in the development of countries within our intervention area, with a focus on expanding our impact in French-speaking West Africa. Our goals include strengthening the intervention capacity of our team and enhancing our networking capabilities.
"We're committed to becoming a strong force in French-speaking West Africa. Our goal is to expand our reach, build a stronger team, grow our network, and continue providing top-quality services," Damien Gbedji N'Ledji.
On MDF's 40th anniversary, the Benin office wishes for the establishment of more MDF offices worldwide.
