Competent professionals in water and agrofood
Started in 2013, the main goal of YEP programmes is to offer young Dutch professionals the opportunity to gain experience abroad and offer young local professionals the opportunity to gain experience with working in an international environment through Dutch organisations. Thus far, over 220 young professionals have been employed internationally by 75 different organisations in the water and agrofood sector.
MDF is involved in the YEP programme in various ways. We provide training sessions on project management, monitoring & evaluation, leadership and training of trainers as part of the YEP training programme, supporting young professionals to be more effective in their work. We also facilitate an online master class on stakeholder analysis, which is available to the ‘YEPpers’ in the field, helping them to make sense of the different interests of the various actors in their projects.
Insights from young experts
“Participating in the YEP programme really has given me the chance to develop my expertise and international network”, says Lisa, a YEP alumni who completed her placement in Ghana, and now works at MDF in the Netherlands. “I was given a lot of freedom to innovate and benefited greatly from the practical training courses MDF offers; all the skills and insights I gained are still very relevant to my current job.”
“It is quite special to be part of a global network of young professionals. All YEPpers recognise the importance of sharing our experiences. That’s why we also developed a newsletter together: to show to the world what we are up to! In our newsletter, you can find out what MDF YEPpers do to strengthen agribusiness development, tackle youth unemployment and formulate business cases in water and sanitation."
The YEP Programme also featured 2 stories of MDF YEPpers in the recently published YEP Effect magazine, which seeks to capture the impact of the YEP programme thus far.
